KINGSTON, JAMAICA – January 22, 2026 – EduFocal Limited, a leading educational technology company, today announced it has secured a significant grant from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), administered by the High Commission of Canada in Jamaica. The funding will be used to launch the first phase of the critical 'School-in-a-Box' Programme, an initiative designed to restore educational continuity for children in communities affected by recent natural disasters.
The successful grant application was made possible through a strategic partnership with the Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation, with EduFocal serving as the executing partner. This collaboration leverages the Foundation’s deep community roots and non-profit status with EduFocal’s expertise in educational content delivery.
The partnership is particularly notable as the Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation was established by The Most Hon. Juliet Holness, Member of Parliament (MP) for St. Andrew East Rural, Speaker of the House of Representatives and dedicated advocate for youth development. Her involvement provides significant momentum and visibility to the programme’s mission.
"We are immensely grateful to the Canadian High Commission for their belief in this project," said Gordon Swaby, CEO of EduFocal Limited. "This grant is a powerful validation of our 'School-in-a-Box' model as a humanitarian response. By partnering with the Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation, we are ensuring that this vital support reaches the children who need it most, leveraging the Foundation's established trust and community network."
The 'School-in-a-Box' Programme will initially target 3,800 students, providing them with essential learning materials, access to digital content, and support from trained community mentors. The initiative is a direct response to the disruption of education caused by Hurricane Melissa, aligning perfectly with Canada’s priorities of humanitarian response and child wellbeing.
Juliet Holness, Founder of the Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation, commented, "This partnership with EduFocal and the support from the Canadian government is a game-changer for our communities. Education is the foundation of resilience, and this programme ensures that our children's future is not put on hold by disaster. We are proud to be the lead partner in bringing this essential support to life."
The grant will serve as a crucial catalyst for the programme. EduFocal and the Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation plan to immediately launch a fundraising campaign to secure the additional JMD 24.5 Million required to expand the project's scope to reach thousands more students across Jamaica in Phase 2 and beyond.
